Decentralized Master-Mind: Joint Action Refinement through Iterative Intent Denoising in Multi-Agent Pathfinding
QUESTION — How can joint actions be coordinated in decentralized multi-agent pathfinding without conflicts?
Decentralized multi-agent path finding (MAPF) requires agents to reach individual goals without collisions under partial observability. Independent sampling from per-agent action distributions often creates incompatible joint actions. This study introduces DMM (Decentralized Master-Mind), replacing one-shot sampling with iterative refinement of action intents via local communication, inspired by diffusion model denoising. DMM is optimized using MICPO and outperforms baselines in solving large-scale MAPF problems.
On 1,600 MovingAI tasks, DMM fine-tuned with MICPO solves 1,598, the highest coverage among the evaluated methods.
DMM scales to over one million simultaneously acting agents in obstacle-rich environments.
